All of us want to make our houses warmer and cheaper to run. Heat loss occurs when heat leaves from your home through the roofing system, walls & windows. The better insulated your house, the less heating you will need, resulting in lower heating expenses.
Roughly 25% of the heat in your house will be lost through the roof, an additional 35% will be lost through the walls and through spaces around doors and windows and a more 10% through ineffective glazing.
There are 2 types of wall insulation, external wall wrapping and cavity wall insulation:-
External wall wrap is the application of an insulating layer around the exterior of the home which is finished with a render, keeping the heat in and the cold out.
Cavity wall insulation is Expanded Polystyrene Beads are injected into the wall cavity in addition to a bonding agent to form an insulating barrier. The wall cavity will still be able to breathe and the beading will not transfer moisture across to the inner leaf.
The pros of external insulation:
- You do not lose any internal home, the entire application is done to the exterior of the home.
- It’s great for the environment, insulating your walls can result in a 50% reduction in carbon emissions from your home.
- Decreased heating expenses, insulating your home will lead to you using your heating for less time but keeping your house warmer for longer due to reduced heat loss.
- Boosts the value of your house. Must you decide to offer your home the increased Building Energy Rating will include worth to the property.
